My Value As A Historic Witness Has Decreased

I guess I should start contributing to the blog again. Moving to California has really thrown off my TV and sports biorhythms.

I'll pick up sort of where I left off last year -- with Johan Santana. The big news here of course is that his 17-game winning streak was snapped with a 2-1 loss to Bartolo Colon and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I was in attendance for the July 10, 2004 loss, and for the past 10 months minus change I was able to claim that I saw Santana's last loss in person, but now it's only his next-to-last loss.

Things I Was Wrong About, So Far

There were a few things I missed in my season previews of the Twins and Cubs:

Jason Bartlett - Never saw this coming, that he'd be the Twins' Opening Day SS.

Magglio Ordonez - I guess it wouldn't have been such a good idea for the Cubs to sign him in retrospect.

Derrek Lee - I would never have dreamt that he would make a run at the April Triple Crown. What's weird is that I thought he had a chance to have a monster year going into last season, and while he had a nice season, he wasn't exactly a world beater. If he does his normal .900 OPS routine after June 1, he's going to have a big year assuming any kind of decent production at all in May.

Torii Hunter - Didn't see him starting off the season with 10 steals in the first three weeks, that's for sure. Before projecting any kind of goofy-high steal total for Hunter it's worth noting that his career high in a season is 23.

I think I'll wait a bit before taking any credit for being right about things -- with the possible exception that the Twins are a deep ball club.
