Santana Unanimous Choice for AL Cy Young

It comes as completely unsurprising news that Johan Santana walked away with the 2004 AL Cy Young Award, as announced yesterday. I really like the shot of Santana and his changeup grip in the photo accompanying the SI article. Fitting, in that it's Santana's change that really sets him apart from most pitchers.

I went ahead and put together a Santana retrospective based on all the times I've written about him in this blog, with some brief comments:

Aug. 2, 2003 - Santana, the second coming of Steve Carlton?
Sept. 2, 2003 - Lock him up now, Twinkies.
April 28, 2004
May 3, 2004
June 10, 2004
June 26, 2004 - Santana gets his groove back.
July 10, 2004, Part 1
July 10, 2004, Part 2
July 18, 2004 - Santana a CYA candidate?
July 21, 2004 - Twins and the All-Star Game
July 27, 2004 - The baseball crush.
Aug. 1, 2004 - Santana vs. Pedro (and Maddux's first try at 300 wins).
Aug. 23, 2004 - Santana finally hits the Big Time.
Aug. 25, 2004
Sept. 6, 2004 - Santana busts my balls.
Oct. 5, 2004 - Twins/Yanks Game 1
